Many owners of the first-generation PlayStation VR have started to question whether they would be able to play their old titles on the PlayStation VR 2. Many have questioned whether Sony’s reluctance to make backward compatibility available on its previous platforms will apply to the PlayStation VR.

Will there be backward compatibility on the PlayStation VR 2?
Sadly, the response is no. The PlayStation VR will adopt a “completely different approach” from the first PSVR and will not be backward compatible. In an episode of the official PlayStation podcast, Sony Interactive Entertainment executive vice president Hideaki Nishino made a statement. The new PlayStation VR 2 would offer a variety of capabilities, and he noted that it would be a “next-generation VR experience” there.
PSVR 2 is intended to give a true next-generation VR experience, Nishino claimed that PSVR games are incompatible with it. The PSVR 2 boasts a lot more sophisticated features, such as brand-new controllers with haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, inside-out tracking, eye tracking in the headset, and of course 3D audio. As a result, creating PSVR 2 requires a completely different strategy than creating PSVR.
Xbox, PlayStation’s main competition in the console game market, is renowned for its “smart delivery” optimization for backward compatibility. One of their major advantages is the improvements and capabilities. However, PlayStation has been reluctant to offer backward compatibility and has instead chosen to market specific game versions for each platform.
Early in 2023 is the anticipated release date and price for PlayStation VR 2, which will be $549.99. Little is known, as of this writing, about the precise date of publication. Furthermore, it is unknown whether or which PlayStation VR game developers will transfer their titles to the PlayStation VR 2. If you do decide to do this, be aware that some PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games may need you to pay for an upgrade. For people who can’t afford the PlayStation VR 2 and are relying on the first PlayStation VR, hopefully there will be a reasonably priced alternative. The PlayStation VR’s second generation will have to wait for the time being.
