Overshoot is kept to a bare minimum, and despite the fact that this is a VA panel, dark level smearing isn’t an issue. When backlight strobing is added, Samsung easily outperforms the competition in terms of game motion clarity.
In our reaction time testing, this monitor kept up with similarly equipped panels, proving that the 240Hz category is well-represented. This is the device for you if you want top-of-the-line speed, image quality, and form factor.

The Gigabyte G27Q is an excellent gaming monitor for the money. It’s identical to the Gigabyte G27QC, but it comes with an IPS display. This implies it has a broad viewing angle, but at the cost of a poor contrast ratio, which causes blacks to seem gray in low light. Most gamers would prefer features like variable refresh rate support in the form of native FreeSync and G-SYNC compatibility on a 144Hz, 1440p display.
It boasts a fantastic response time at its maximum refresh rate, resulting in minimum motion blur, and it has a very low input lag. However, the ergonomics are poor, and you won’t be able to quickly adjust the screen to a comfortable viewing position. Finally, it offers a great SDR color gamut with excellent Adobe RGB color space coverage.
The input lag on the Gigabyte G27Q is really low. Whether you’re gaming at 60Hz or with VRR turned on, it stays low. We can’t measure the 10-bit HDR input lag over DisplayPort because we can only reach 120Hz with a 10-bit signal, and we don’t have the capabilities to measure the HDR input lag over DP. Over HDMI, the maximum 10-bit refresh rate is 60Hz. However, we do not anticipate a major increase in input lag with HDR.

The ViewSonic Elite XG350R-C is less expensive than many other 35-inch ultrawides, as well as ultrawides with fewer features (the XG350R-C even has RGB lighting on the rear). It’s a gaming display monster, especially if you own an NVIDIA GPU. ASUS has included NVIDIA’s G-SYNC technology, which allows the monitor and your GPU to communicate directly with each other, enabling synchronized output, matching the screen’s refresh rate with your current frame rate. This allows for a much smoother viewing experience. Pair that tech with the 1440p resolution, super-fast 1ms response time, 180Hz refresh rate, and other features like reduced blue light emissions, and you’ve got a killer display for downtime. The only downside for some may be the price, but it’s worth it if your budget can stretch a bit.
The ASUS ROG Swift is all about pushing the boundaries of a gaming monitor. This is reflected in both the 165Hz refresh rate and the response time of less than four milliseconds, but the Republic of Gamers also made sure that all the key features were present. ASUS Eye Care technology aims to reduce the voltage of blue lighting, and NVIDIA G-Sync technology is also supported. Surprisingly, the color quality is quite strong here. The LG 27GL850-B isn’t exactly marketed as a gaming monitor, but that gives it a special place on this list. If you need a gaming monitor that can also work for playing movies or working in your home office, it easily ranks among the best 1440p 144Hz monitors for a combination of gaming and general use. The LG 27GL850 also supports a wide range of products, around 95% of the DCI-P3 spectrum in our testing, which is broader than any VA or TN offering we’ve seen. It lacks true HDR like most 1440p displays, but if you need a wide range for creative work or just want a vibrant picture, the 27GL850 is the right one. The uniformity and viewing angles are good, certainly better than most of the competition, which allows the 27GL850 to offer this nice balance between color quality and performance.
The differences between the 27GL850 and other IPS 1440p monitors are striking. The 27GL850 offers an average gray-to-gray response of around 4ms in its optimal configuration, which is much faster than competing options which at best offer an average of 5ms, or at worst close to 7ms. The Acer Predator X35 is an example of the kind of monitor we’d like to have if price wasn’t an issue. With an impressive 180Hz refresh rate and 2ms response time, it outperformed its pricey competitors, such as the Acer Predator X27a and Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ in our response time and lag time tests. After calibration, the contrast on this VA panel was 2237: 1 and the HDR was fantastic, due to the Predator X35’s Full Matrix Locally Dimmable (FALD) backlighting. Combined with the certification to achieve peak brightness of at least 1000 nits, the Predator X35 has vastly outperformed other displays when it comes to HDR gaming.
The 35-inch screen would be more than capable of pulling you into a gaming experience, but the curved format provides an even more immersive gaming feel. The 512 local dimming zones guarantee some of the best contrast performance, and the refresh rate can actually go well beyond 144Hz, making it a well-suited monitor for even the most serious gamer.
